Mini piling is an alternative to traditional foundation techniques that are unsuitable on sites with a challenging soil profile. Piles can support considerably heavy loads in weak or wet soil strata’s. The most common mini piles are Steel Cased Driven Piles (SCD) or Open Bore Piles.
Horner Foundations is a company of piling contractors, based in the Farnham area, with a full package service available in the surrounding South East counties of Berkshire, Buckinghamshire, Hampshire, Kent, Surrey and Sussex.
Mini piling is well suited to projects with limited headroom, enclosed workspace or restricted access. It is not just the size of our equipment that makes it perfect for these situations. Our techniques also reduce noise and vibration to prevent structural damage to surrounding properties, and to keep local soil and strata stable.
You can view some of our previous pile foundation projects on this website.
Bored piles are typically used on sites underlain with cohesive soils.
Our piling operatives form piles with sectional flight augers (SFA) that have varying selected diameters which extend in 1m sections to the specified design depth to achieve the required safe working load (SWL). Bored piling techniques extract spoil before putting specified debonding sleeves and reinforcement cages into position. We then cast the piles using high-strength and high-slump concrete.
Piling contractors determine the diameter and depth based on the anticipated loading together with any site investigation reports provided to assess the soil conditions, load bearing capacaties and ground water levels.
Our lightweight, compact, versatile equipment is ideally suited to workspace with limited headroom and sites with access restrictions.
We also use auger-bored mini piling for underpinning applications.
All piling methods used by our team are, of course, subject to the project’s design specification and the surrounding soil and strata.
The team at Horner Foundations are also experts in steel case-driven mini piling using permanent steel casings driven in with a mechanically tripped hammer weight. The piles are formed with a crimped end starter case and socketed joints, facilitating easy extension to the required depth. Each joint is continuously welded to ensure a rigid, watertight and reliable high strength casing meaning pile integrity is unaffected by high water table conditions and soft or loose soils. . After driving casings to the specified set, we extract the hammer weight and cast the pile with reinforced concrete.
We use bottom-driven piling rigs to ensure excellent directional stability and to reduce vibrations and impact to the surrounding ground. We can pre-auger to reduce quake and disturbance further.
Again, piling methods depend on the design, soil and strata.
Horner Foundations has 30 years of piling experience in its team and is a trusted choice for services in all Berkshire, Buckinghamshire, Hampshire, Kent, Surrey and Sussex areas. While we primarily work with main contractors and property developers, you can also use our piling teams for standalone commercial works and for a range of domestic services such as underpinning. We even specialise in the field of basement construction.
We very much look forward to hearing from you, and to helping you with your projects both now and into the future.
